Janikowski Named Player of the Week

October 5, 2005

The National Football League named Oakland Raiders kicker Sebastian Janikowski Week 4's AFC Special Teams Player of the Week.

Janikowski was perfect on four field goal attempts and accounted for 13 of the team's 19 points in Oakland's 19-13 victory over the Dallas Cowboys last Sunday. He opened the scoring with a 30-yard field goal on the Raiders' opening possession of the game and kicked the extra point following LaMont Jordan's two-yard touchdown run on the following possession.

Janikowski connected from 23 yards out in the third quarter to give the Raiders a 13-3 lead, then made field goals from 49 and 43 yards in the fourth quarter to provide the final margin of victory.

The award is the second such accolade of his career. Janikowski was named AFC Special Teams Player of the Month in September, 2001, after he went eight-for-eight in field goal attempts and was perfect on six extra points in the month.

Janikowski is the second Raider to win the award in as many years. Langston Walker was named AFC Special Teams Player of the Week for Week 12 of the 2004 season after he blocked a field goal attempt on the final play of the game to preserve a 25-24 victory on the road over the Denver Broncos.

Through five-plus seasons, Janikowski ranks sixth on the Raiders' all-time scoring list with 579 points and needs 10 points to move into fifth place in team history.
