CONCORD, N.C. (October 13, 2006) – For the next three
years Mike Wallace won't have to pay a lot for car insurance.
Phoenix Racing announced today that GEICO will return with Wallace
in the NASCAR Busch Series after a two year hiatus, and the team
will make the switch from Dodge to Chevrolet.
Wallace will move to the No. 7 with an announcement coming soon
on the driver of Wallace’s old car, the No. 1, which is currently
sponsored by long-time team sponsor Miccosukee Gaming Resorts.
GEICO sponsored Wallace from 2002-2004 and the duo captured one
win in the 2004 Pepsi 400 at Daytona.
"I am extremely excited to be working with GEICO again," Wallace
said. "We had a great relationship previously and we were able
to experience success both on and off the track."
Wallace will also continue to run some Cup races for the team,
including some "Car of Tomorrow" events.
"I believe the tentative plan right now is to run 10-12 races," Wallace
said. "Of course it will be all the plate races even with the 'Car
of Tomorrow' at Talladega. Probably both Bristol's, both Richmond’s,
Phoenix and Homestead. It's all still tentative, but I'm sure the
Miccosukee Gaming Resorts will be the sponsor of the car."
Wallace said the team has two "COT" chassis built, but the team
is waiting on the final definitive of what NASCAR is going to do.
