Mad Max on Track During First Day in Montreal

Player Management International Media Release

Montreal, Quebec (August 3, 2007) – Max Papis felt right at home when he hit Circuit Gilles Villenueve in Montreal to practice for NASCAR’s first race in the Great White North.  While this is only Papis’s second appearance in a NASCAR Busch Series road course race, it appeared as though Papis had done it many times before, as he looked quick and confident during NASCAR’s two open practice sessions on Thursday.

Papis would waste little time in moving to the top of the speed charts, as he and the #1 Miccosukee Gaming & Resorts Chevrolet toured the 2.71-mile road course in 92.486 seconds, at a speed of 105.447 MPH, which would place him in the 10th position at the conclusion of the first practice session.

Things would speed up even more for Papis and the Phoenix Racing team during the second open practice session.  When the red flag waved to end the final session of the day, Mad Max had the #1 Miccosukee Gaming & Resorts Chevrolet sitting 6th on the final speed chart, picking up four spots from the earlier session.

While Papis and the Miccosukee Racing team were successful on their first day at Circuit Gilles Villenueve, they feel as though they still can improve and make the car better.

“The Phoenix Racing team did a great job today on the #1 Miccosukee Gaming & Resorts Chevrolet and it showed on the practice sheets,” Papis said.  “I’m very happy because these guys have worked so hard to give me a good car and we all look forward to the two practice sessions on Friday.”  He continued, “I can’t thank James Finch (team owner) enough for giving me this opportunity to drive this car and work with this team.  I also have a great teammate in Mike Wallace in the #7 GEICO Chevrolet and we’re going to work together to give Phoenix Racing two good finishes.”

Papis and the #1 Miccosukee Gaming & Resorts Chevrolet will hit the track again on Friday, August 3rd, at Circuit Gilles Villenueve for their final two practice sessions.  The first session will begin at 11:30 AM (ET), while the final practice session will begin at 2:05 PM (ET).  Qualifying is set for Saturday, August 4th, at 12:10 PM (ET).

A dedicated racer, once NASCAR Busch Series practice concludes on Friday afternoon, Papis will turn his attention to his Grand-Am team, Krohn Racing, and vie for a win on Friday night in the Rolex Grand-Am Series race.

On Saturday, August 4th, the NAPA Auto Parts 200 presented by Dodge NASCAR Busch Series race will be televised live on ESPN2 with coverage beginning at 3:00 PM (ET) and green flag action coming at 3:30 PM (ET).  Motor Racing Network (MRN) will carry the live radio broadcast.
