After a Top 5 in Montreal, Max Papis Takes His Show to the Glen

Player Management International Media Release

Watkins Glen, NY (August 9, 2007) – In what has become the norm for the open-wheel and sports-car racing sensation, Max Papis, has had a busy, exciting year.  He has participated in the full schedule in the Rolex Grand-Am Series, piloted the Corvette in the 24 Hours of Le Mans, spent many days testing for Hendrick Motorsports, and most recently, he qualified on the outside pole in NASCAR’s inaugural race at Circuit Gilles Villenueve and went on to finish 3rd at the 2.71-mile road course.

Now Mad Max will take his show on the road to Watkins Glen International where he made his NASCAR debut just one year ago.  After starting 43rd in the #36 Sport Clips Chevrolet for McGill Motorsports, Papis made his way through the field at a blistering pace and after picking up 29 positions, he would take the checkered flag in 14th, handing McGill Motorsports their best finish of the season.

Papis looks forward to getting back to The Glen and improving upon his third place finish in Montreal.

“I’m looking forward to getting back to Watkins Glen this year and being in the #1 Miccosukee Chevrolet,” Papis said.  “Last year was a great learning experience and I’m thankful that Sport Clips and team owner, John McGill, gave me that great opportunity to race with the best in the business.”  He continued, “The Phoenix Racing team did a great job last week and we are looking to improve upon that success this week.   I appreciate James Finch and the Phoenix Racing team giving me the opportunity to get in the #1 Miccosukee Chevrolet and I’ll do whatever I can to keep it at the front of the field like we did last week in Montreal.”

Crew chief, Chuck Myers’, father passed away this week and this weighs heavy with Papis, as Mad Max lost his own father in December.

“My thoughts go out to Chuck and his family and we want to keep him in our hearts and Prayers as they deal with this very tough time.  Having recently lost my Dad, I know the pain that he’s feeling right now and I Pray that the Lord doesn’t let his heart hurt too much.  We want him to know that while he’s at home with his family that we’ll have him in our hearts at The Glen.”

This week, Max Papis and the Phoenix Racing team head to Watkins Glen, NY, for the Zippo 200 at The Glen on Saturday, August 11, 2007.
Papis and the #1 Miccosukee Resort & Gaming Chevrolet Monte Carlo SS will hit the track at Watkins Glen International for their first practice on Friday, August 10th, at 1:30 PM (ET).  Final practice is at 5:30 PM (ET), followed by qualifying on Saturday at 11:35 AM (ET).
On Saturday, the Zippo 200 at The Glen NASCAR Busch Series race will be televised live on ESPN2 with coverage beginning at 3:00 PM (ET) and green flag action coming at 3:30 PM (ET).  Motor Racing Network (MRN) will carry the live radio broadcast.
