Mike Wallace Reaches a Milestone in the Lone Star State

Player Management International Media Release

Justin, TX (April 3, 2008) – Some would say that Mike Wallace is an old school racer, and they would be right. When Wallace and his #7 GEICO Camry roll off of the starting grid on Saturday afternoon, he will be making his 600th career NASCAR start.  There is something to be said for longevity and since his debut in NASCAR in 1991 he has logged 60,000 miles, while also recording $5.2 million dollars in earnings in NASCAR’s number 2 series.

In 2008, Wallace and the GEICO team have experienced reasonable success, having recorded Top 10’s at both Las Vegas and Bristol.  The Germain Racing team is after something much more however.  A win is what the #7 GEICO team is seeking and they will work feverishly until they get it.  They came close at Las Vegas and put themselves in position in Bristol, however they have yet to visit the ever so coveted Victory Lane.

This weekend would be perfect timing, as both team and driver could celebrate together in the Lone Star state.  There is not a better way to celebrate a 600th start then to do it in Victory Lane.

Wallace didn’t realize he had approached such an exclusive milestone, but was excited at the thought of having such a long, successful career.

“It’s obviously very exciting to realize that you have experienced longevity in this sport because it seems so tough to last, so I think it says a lot about my persistence and determination,” Wallace said. “I’ve worked with a lot of great teams and crew members along the way and it’s because of those guys that I have been able to keep racing and keep competing each week.  The exciting thing is that a lot of these races have been spent with GEICO, so I think it’s only appropriate that I celebrate this milestone with them.  Sport Clips is based in Texas, so it is exciting to have them with me on such a special weekend as well.”

This week, the Germain Racing team is at Texas Motor Speedway. Along with it being Mike Wallace’s 600th career start, Texas is also special because Sport Clips is based just a couple of hours down the road in Georgetown, TX.

The O’Reilly 300 is on Saturday, April 5th, and it will be televised live on ESPN2 beginning at 2:30 PM (ET), while the Performance Racing Network (PRN) will carry the live radio broadcast.
