National Media follows Max Papis to Birmingham

Open wheel and sports car racing sensation Max Papis will be racing the GEICO/Sport Clips Team Serio Racing entry at The Birmingham International Raceway this weekend as part of the Davey Allison Memorial 100.
 
 Haas CNC Racing announced Wednesday, April 23rd that Max will be driving their No.70 Haas Automation Chevrolet during the two road-course races on the 2008 NASCAR Sprint Cup Series schedule.
 
 After local Fox affiliation WBRC-6 in Birmingham told of Papis racing at BIR Talladega weekend, ESPN and other national media personnel requested credentials to report on his first race at the historic track in a late model. Following the race in Birmingham, Papis will travel to Indianapolis, Indiana, next week to begin practice for the Indianapolis 500, which will take place on Memorial Day weekend.
 
 This weekends festivities at BIR will begin at 8:00 pm on Friday, April 25th with feature races in the Sportsman, Mini-Modified, Street Stock, Renegade and Mini Stock divisions. Also on the nights schedule is a practice session for the Birmingham Super Series Late Model Challenge cars. Max will be in his GEICO/ Sport Clips/ Team Serio Chevrolet for this practice session as he and the drivers get their final test under the lights before the 100 lap Davey Allison Memorial 100.
 
 Friday night is also “Hueytown Appreciation Night” as the first 1000 Hueytown residents will be admitted to the grandstands free by showing their drivers license at the main ticket office. On hand to get the racing action underway will be Hueytown’s Mayor Delor Bauman and the Hueytown City Council.
  
 On Saturday night, all 5 divisions listed previously along with the Open Wheel Modified and the BSSLMC will be in action. BIR welcomes home two of its famous sons “Alabama Gang” member and Davey’s father Bobby Allison and Davey’s crew chief, Ensley graduate and Fox’s color analyst Larry McReynolds. Bobby, Larry, Max and the entire starting field for the 100-lap Davey Allison Memorial will have an autograph session at 6:00 pm with racing at 7:00. Also on hand will be the famous Geico Gecko to meet race fans and wave the night’s first green flag of the nights races.
