Mike Wallace Finishes Fifth in GEICO Tundra

Germain Racing Media Release

Talladega, Ala. (10-04-2008) – Mike Wallace ran the NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series race at Talladega Superspeedway for the second year in a row for Germain Racing. In Saturday’s Mountain Dew 250 Fueled by Winn Dixie, Wallace steered the #9 GEICO Tundra through 94 tough laps of superspeedway racing to finish fifth.

“The Mountain Dew 250 Fueled by Winn Dixie was a typical plate race with the trucks. Johnny Benson gave me just a little bit of an opening down there to get it three-wide (on the final lap). It always comes down to push, shove, this, that, you know. It was a pretty clean race and I’m happy with bringing this GEICO Tundra home for a fifth place finish,” said Wallace, who last year finished 17th driving the #03 Tundra for Germain Racing at Talladega.

Wallace and his crew, led by Jason Overstreet, were hoping for a winning weekend at Talladega.

“Like anybody, we came to Talladega to win the thing. The GEICO Toyota Tundra ran really well and I have to thank Germain and Toyota for supporting this effort here. So far this weekend at Talladega the Wallace family has a ninth place finish in the ARCA race with Chrissy, a fifth in the Truck Series race and I’m starting sixth for Sunday’s Sprint Cup Series race,” said Wallace.

Wallace said he was able to reel in the top-five finish for the GEICO Tundra by taking advantage of a fellow Toyota driver’s championship goals.

“I knew Johnny (Benson Jr.) was points-racing and that is not to disrespect him because he is a great racer. He’s just in a very tight battle, trying to win another Truck Series title for Toyota, so I knew he would be really conservative. There was a split-second when Johnny gave me just enough of an opening and I took it. I watched the replay and I was thought the race finish was pretty cool. The GEICO Tundra looks pretty straight and we finished top-five,” said Wallace.

Wallace competes full-time for Germain Racing in NASCAR’s #2 Series driving the #7 GEICO Toyota Camry. Wallace ranks eighth in the championship points standings in NNS. His next race for Germain Racing is Friday night, October 9th, at Lowe’s Motor Speedway. For more information on how your company can join the Germain Racing lineup, visit www.germainracing.com.
