Mike Wallace and the Gecko Net 10th in Charlotte

Player Management International Media Release

Concord, NC (October 10, 2008) – Mike Wallace arrived at Lowe’s Motor Speedway a week removed from a busy weekend in Talladega where he recorded a Top 5 finish in the NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series race in the #9 GEICO Toyota Tundra.

When the weekend kicked off with practice sessions on Thursday, Wallace wound up 23rd on the charts at the conclusion of the opening practice.  Rain would then set in and force the cancellation of the final practice, however NASCAR would permit a shortened session on Friday morning. Twenty-four hours between practices was good for Wallace, as he shot straight to the top of the final practice speed charts and rested 8th when the red flag closed the session.

Qualifying 31st, Mike Wallace and the #7 GEICO Camry would be forced to battle Mother Nature and narrowly avoid several crashes that would result in 13 caution flags before the evening concluded.

Unfortunately, the race would only go green briefly before rain would cause the red flag to be displayed 8 laps into the Dollar General 300.  Once the race re-started at 8:40 PM, Mike Wallace and the GEICO Camry worked their way into the Top 15 by lap 50 before moving into the 7th position just 19 laps later. Unfortunately, the rain would once again set in on Lap 83.

Adding to Wallace’s already exciting evening, he would find himself spinning through the grass on Lap 100.  Despite the setback, Wallace and the #7 GEICO Camry would once again move into the 7th position on Lap 123.  With eleven laps to go, the #7 GEICO Camry narrowly avoided a crash between teammates Dave Blaney and Jason Leffler.  Then to add even more excitement to the late night hours, there would be yet another crash on the re-start of the race with just eight laps remaining that would force Wallace to act quickly and narrowly avoid a sea of crashing cars as they were coming to the green flag.

Finally, when the checkered flag was displayed in the early morning hours, Wallace and the GEICO Racing team would record a 10th place finish, accounting for their 7th Top 10 finish of the 2008 season.

“Lowe’s is a track where I’ve enjoyed a lot of good runs, I was tenth here in May on the white flag lap, but, I was wrecked out coming to take the checkered. That’s kind of been my luck here; Great runs, without the finishes,” Wallace said.  “The GEICO Camry was excellent tonight. We had no adjustments on pit road – the car was that good. The GEICO crew did a great job putting the car back together after our trip through the grass and I am really happy we were able to come out of the Dollar General 300 with a top-ten finish.”

This week, Mike Wallace and the Germain Racing team will enjoy a weekend off before heading to Memphis, TN, for the October 25th race at Memphis Motorsports Park.
