Oakland Raiders Kicker Makes His Annual Visit to Daytona

Player Management International Media Release

Daytona Beach, FL (February 18, 2009) – While a familiar site would be Sebastian Janikowski trolling the sidelines of an NFL game, the Oakland Raiders star did not appear any less comfortable as he made his way down pit road at Daytona International Speedway on Saturday at the NASCAR Nationwide Series race.

Over the last few years, Janikowski has made this an annual pilgrimage and has been seen canoodling with the likes of Dale Earnhardt, Jr, Kevin Harvick and others while enjoying the exciting atmosphere that Daytona offers.  This year, however, he had his wife, father and brother-in-law in tow, as he wanted to share with the people closest to him the experience that words fail to describe.

While some people may prefer Sunday’s Daytona 500, Janikowski has grown to appreciate NASCAR’s number two series.

“A lot of people want to come on Sunday, but I’ve enjoyed going to the race on Saturday,” Janikowski said.  “It’s a great combination of NASCAR’s best drivers with the new talent that is up and coming.  I come every year and I always have a great time, which is why I brought Lori (wife), my dad and my brother-in-law with me this time.” Janikowski continued, “I enjoy coming to Daytona, but I’m looking forward to getting out and seeing more races at different tracks.  These guys are great athletes and they have to train like we do to maintain their optimum performance, so it’s fun to talk about what each of us do to prepare ourselves for our seasons.”

Janikowski, widely regarded as having the strongest leg in the NFL, recorded the longest field goal in Raider history on September 14, 2008, at Arrowhead Stadium in Kansas City.  Just two weeks later, he would attempt a 76-yard field goal against the Chargers before following it up on October 19th with an overtime field goal from 57-yards, which, along with beating the New York Jets, set an NFL record for the longest overtime field goal in league history.
